TelQ testing platform documentation

Usage Guidelines

These guidelines summarise the key rules for using the TelQ platform, API and test numbers. They apply to every user of your account, for all test types (SMS and CLI), whether you use the web interface or the API. They are a summary: the full rules are in your Service Agreement and the Platform Terms of Use, which prevail in case of any difference.

Why these rules matter

TelQ test numbers are real SIM cards in real handsets. Test results are only reliable while your suppliers cannot tell a test message from live traffic. Once a test number is exposed, whitelisted or blacklisted, it stops showing what really happens on the route, for you and for every other client. TelQ has to replace it. Keeping test numbers hidden is what keeps your results accurate.

1. Internal use only — no reselling

The platform, API and test results are licensed to your company for its own internal business use. You may not resell, sublicense, rent, share or otherwise make the platform, the API or test results available to third parties, or offer testing to others as a service.

You may share test results inside your organisation (employees, contractors under confidentiality). You are responsible for how they use them. Access to your account may be given only to your own direct or remote employees bound by confidentiality.

2. Use test numbers only inside TelQ

Every test number is allocated for a single test, with the test ID issued by TelQ, within the test's TTL. Do not reuse a test ID or a test number for additional messages or calls outside the TelQ platform.

Do not send messages or place calls to test numbers without a recorded test request on the platform. Do not connect the TelQ platform directly to your suppliers' systems.

Do not send voice calls to test numbers allocated for SMS testing, or SMS to test numbers allocated for voice calls. This is considered a GDPR breach and might cause fines and user complaints.

Test numbers are confidential information. Treat them as such: do not store, share or publish them outside your testing workflow.

3. Never escalate test numbers or test results

Do not escalate a test number, or a test result that reveals it, to your suppliers, especially after a fake DLR or a failed call. This applies to SMS and CLI tests alike. Escalating a test number tells the supplier it is being monitored. The number gets whitelisted or blacklisted, the result becomes meaningless, and the number has to be withdrawn.

Because test numbers are personal data, passing them on to third parties may also be a breach of data protection law (GDPR), for which you are responsible. What to do instead: raise the issue with your supplier using a number from your own live traffic. If you believe a TelQ test number itself is faulty, report it to TelQ support.

4. No whitelisting or blacklisting

Do not whitelist, blacklist, prioritise or create any special routing for TelQ test numbers in your own systems.

Do not build or maintain lists of TelQ test numbers for any purpose other than running your tests.

5. Message content

Send content that resembles your normal traffic (OTPs, notifications, alerts). Avoid words such as "test" that reveal the purpose of the message.

Do not send spam, fraudulent, hateful, discriminatory or otherwise unlawful or inappropriate content, or content that infringes third-party rights. You are responsible for the content you send.

6. CLI testing

Place one call per test request, only within the TTL. Do not call the same number again for the same test, and do not call after the TTL has expired. Do not contact a test number by any other means.

7. Account security and API use

Keep your credentials and API keys secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account, including by anyone who gains access to it. Use the API within the limits in the Developer Documentation; do not generate abusive request volumes.

Do not scrape, copy, reverse-engineer or build databases from the platform or its content, and do not use TelQ to build or operate a competing service.

8. Report problems immediately

Notify TelQ right away if a test ID is missing, you suspect misuse of test numbers, or you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

Misuse of the platform or test numbers including reselling, escalating, whitelisting or blacklisting, is a material breach of your agreement. TelQ may suspend the account immediately and terminate the agreement, and the client is liable for financial compensation to TelQ for each test number misused, as set out in the agreement. The usual liability caps do not apply to this kind of breach, and the client bears any regulatory fines or third-party claims resulting from it, including under GDPR.
